Marshall Family Ode 2010- a recap of the year...

Hi friends, here’s a little note from us to you,

Filled with love to fill you in on all that’s new.

In January we visited Mesa spending time with people we love.

We got to try snowshoeing too; kids bundled and the sun shining above.

In February Aricin kept busy with tumbling, art, & music classes.

And we finally hit the slopes at A-Basin with Jon - yeah for ski passes!

The Breckenridge ice carving festival is a tradition we just can’t miss.

We also threw a Mardi Gras Party with Gumbo & Beignet’s- pure bliss.

During spring we met grandparents in Mazatlan to relax and renew,

An “If you give a mouse a cookie” party meant Aricin was now two.

In late May we moved into our 500 square foot Edinburgh Flat

Surrounded by cobblestone, castles, bagpipers, & plaid scottish hats.

We loved making new friends & exploring the city- rain or shine,

Aaron studied hard and enjoyed their cask ales to their wine.

It was refreshing to embrace the history and national pride they represent.

While Aaron enjoyed scotch, Janay reveled at the Scottish accent

Aaron’s days were spent reading about moral and experiential education

While Janay walked the town and frequented play-groups during our “vacation.”

We checked out Glasgow, Oban, Inverness, Aberdeen, and St. Andrews Beach

Our time was fun and full of challenge - God taught us no dreams are out of reach

We didnt’ catch a glimpse of the Loch Ness Monster (at least not yet)

I think Aricin half hoped we’d take home a furry highland cow as a pet

Janay was interviewed on TV while buying tickets for the “Tattoo” - what a show!

August’s festival offered show after show - apparently summer’s a great time to go.

A weekend in London felt like a whirlwind tour of all major sites

Hyde Park was a hit with the kids - Neverland, fountains, ice cream and kites.

Briefly we visited Wimbledon to see Scotland’s Murray vs. Nadal in a final match

All in all our summer in the UK was amazing despite a short rainy patch

We got back and Janay jumped into a season of coaching high school volleyball

Aaron’s teaching ethics and has started a tutoring company - its been a busy fall

We saw the Hot Air Balloon Festival, the Dodgers, and the Denver Zoo

And flew to Santa Barbara for a Wedding, good times - saw the beach too!

In October Talia turned one; she’s standing, climbing, laughing, and such a joy.

Aricin loves zip lines, reading, talking about anything & being a boy

The kids are growing fast - and we’re trying to embrace every moment

Knowing soon they’ll be gone & we’ll just have each other to torment.

We still love life out here in Colorado - it just feels right

The weather is grand and all four seasons are quite a sight

Looking back at this year we feel immensely blessed

We see the work of our Lord and know he’s never at rest

Life is a journey and lasts but a short while

Stumbling, we try to live beneath God’s smile

So that’s our year so much to tell

We hope all of you are happy, healthy, and well

We wish you peace, love, joy and blessings this holiday season

And invite you to visit anytime for any reason

Merry Christmas

Love Aaron, Janay, Aricin, and Talia

October 2010

Backyard Fun
Matching Halloween PJ's from Grandma & Grandpa
Aricin was a snow leopard and Tally was a Bumble Bee

Our Happy One Year Old...

She had 4 cupcakes and enjoyed all of them...

Aricin had to help blow out the candle

We went with a Fairy Theme...

I found this Tutu at TJ Maxx for $2 and couldn't resist...

The Pumpkin patch...

Snack time at the Pool...

Dad??? Did you move to Denver??? Just another Jorge Ramos
Wall Art for Tally's room...
The print above was created during WWII in case the Nazi's would have invaded London they would have released these- instead they were uncovered in 2000 and have become an Iconic phrase- I love it and thought it would be great for her room.
Her name in a jumble of letters... saw this and i had to re-create it.
Subway sign of some of our favorite places
Again, i saw this idea for a monogramed letter in a canary yellow frame and had to re-create it.
Emotion sticks- i've been trying to explain different emotions to Aricin so that he can better articulate how he's feeling.
I made this subway sign for the living room of things we want to focus on
finally got some Edinburgh pics up
Aaron surprised me and made this 4 post bed. When we got married Aaron's parents bought us an amazing sleigh bed but when we moved down to southern california and were living in a pool house it didn't fit up the stairs to our bedroom- so we had to sell it and get a cheap Ikea bed that i've kind of not liked. I was gone all day at a Volleyball tournament and when i came home this was in our room- with a new mattress, new sheets, and he even enlarged one of our favorite pics from the Edinburgh water front and had it framed for above the bed. Nice job Hubby- your the best!
I found this piece of furniture at Habitat for Humanity and thought it would make for great office storage. I painted it red and put new hardware on it and think it's soo fun.
I made these headbands for Tally- kind of silly seeing as how she rips them off as soon as i put them on her.

October has come and gone and it was good. My volleyball season has come to an end leaving me a little sad. It was super life giving for me- i LOVED really getting to know my girls and watching them grow and improve. (Sigh) All i can say is... I can't wait for the next year. This last week Aaron and I have been practicing with the Varsity girls helping them prep for play off games and it's been so fun to get back out there and hit and dig again- soo fun!
Tally turned one last week and we had a Fairy birthday party for her- she loved it and ate 4 cupcakes for dessert. We're trying to plump her up seeing as how she's in the less then 3rd percentile for her age. The doctor isn't too concerned seeing as how Aricin was and has been in the same place. We brought the kids to a Harvest Festival for Halloween and they had a blast playing in the bounce house and doing Carnival games. Aaron had a blast carving pumpkins and got a little creative. Speaking of creative, since Volleyball got done i've been going stir crazy trying to find things to occupy my extra time. I thrive on always having something to do- some sort of project to keep me thinking. I've found a PhD program at the Univeristy Colorado at Greely that is in Supervision and Grant Writing that i'm super interested in. If it wern't an hour away, and we had the extra money, and i had some one that could watch the kids i would LOVE to do it. Maybe someday.
Our small group has been talking a lot about guilt and shame vs. grace and forgiveness. It's interesting because i've never realized how much guilt i carry with me and that is sooo not from God. Guilt for silly things (being the perfectionist that i am), it's great to remember that God is good and we don't have to do everything right to be accepted and forgiven. Which reminds me, I've been really struggling with being patient with Aricin. I was telling Aaron the other night I didn't like myself very much because of how much i raised my voice with Aricin. I want to always remain calm and talk to him in a rational voice that can process with him why what he's doing is wrong. Instead i feel like someday's it's time out after time out and i'm very far from calm. As i was explaining to Aaron my frustration that Aricin continues to make the same mistakes Aaron pointed out that isn't that the same for us. We continue to sin in the same ways and God continues to extend Grace and forgives us. (Deep Breath) Although i wasn't in a space that wanted to hear Aaron, i appreciate his wisdom and was humbled as i reflected on how right it was. And so... I'm praying for patience and that i will be able to model to Aricin the concept of sin, forgiveness, and grace and that i like God still love him very much even when he sins.
On another note... we applied to be on an HGTV show (Professional Grade) and they liked our application because before we knew it they were at our house filming a casting video with us... we should find out sometime this week if we're chosen for the show... I'll keep you updated and explain more as to what that would mean for us when we find out.
