There is no doubt that the Thomas fire was devastating... over 1000 structures lost in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties, a firefighters life was lost, and by the numbers it was the largest wildfire California has ever seen. School was cancelled in SB for 2 weeks because of the smoke and evacuations. Air quality in SB was really horrible- hazardous for few days and masks were recommended when going outside for a good 2 weeks. Despite all that there was something kind of nice about leaving our normal busyness and spending a week in San Luis Obispo having fun with one of our favorite families (the Nolands). We then spent a fun week with my sweet Grandma Ruth in Lake Arrowhead, playing in the club pool, exploring the town, and enjoying a little cold weather. Under normal circumstances it would have been hard to spend an entire week in the mountains but thanks to the fire we really enjoyed our visit with her. After spending a couple days with Aaron fan in Pasadena we went to Visalia for almost a week of Christmas fun. It wasn't fun being displaced but sometimes we need things like that to make us realize how important time with friends and family is. I'm thankful for all the time we got over December to spend with those we love. Praying for all those who lost their homes in the family and for the family that lost their daddy/husband in the fire.
